Will of the Wheel: The water mill(chhutha)

It's almost half past midnight. The minute hand racing to beat the heart of midnight on my wrist watch. Neither the moon is on man's favour nor the twinkling stars above. Clashing of the two stone slabs and the cold river beneath almost overpower the yell of mill operator.
Water mill (Chhuthag)
" It takes you eons to grind a sack of maize flour in winter water mill" the claim of 72 years old Apche Dhotu. His hyperbole answered. Despite the mill that grinds sack of maize within few minutes, people still prefer age old water mill with the stand that it does not take away the taste of cereals like machine mill.
Every year people of three villages come together for the repair of turbine and maintenance of water channel. The consciences built that the water mill is used on first come first bases.People from as far as Serthi come with pony for their annual mess stock.
The village folks are as busy as bees during day time, it's only the night that permits their time to come for mill. The water mill has been a great benefit to the people and it's likely that it will continue to be people's preference over any technology that grinds the cereal.
