Impact of learning English as second language in the tertiary class room

The tertiary education houses the high and large professional educational resources which are mostly available only in English language. English being the most lucid and simple language which has the expressive ability more than any other languages, it is used as a medium of research, scientific studies and many other academic and non-academic approaches of study.

It enable the students avail the required learning materials of various domains in tertiary class room. On the other hand, it also has negative impacts in preservation of the indigenous language. For an instance in our case the spiritual value of the Dzongkha is said to be besmirched over time being English at the greater choice of curriculum.

Despite the versatility of the English language, it fails to deliver the same indigenous knowledge to the students, thus over the time the spiritual meaning and significance become vague.Weighing almost equal on the balance of impact of learning English as second language in the tertiary class room, the focus should remain in the delivery of indigenous and scientific based knowledge intact and unaltered.
